Amanda Halterman, known for her appearances on the reality TV series “1000-lb Sisters,” has made significant strides in her weight-loss journey, shedding over 300 pounds through a combination of dietary changes, exercise, and bariatric surgery. While the show primarily focuses on the weight-loss endeavors of sisters Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton, other members of the Slaton family, including Amanda, have also embarked on their own paths toward healthier lifestyles.
Growing up alongside Tammy, Amy, and their siblings in Shawneetown, Illinois, Amanda, like her sisters, grappled with an unhealthy relationship with food from an early age. With their mother often occupied with work, the children frequently had to fend for themselves, resorting to convenient and budget-friendly junk food. As the years passed, Amanda’s weight continued to escalate, particularly after becoming a mother herself.
Although Amanda’s weight-loss journey was not featured in the initial seasons of “1000-lb Sisters” due to personal challenges, including a tumultuous divorce, she had previously undergone gastric bypass surgery in 2014, resulting in a substantial weight loss. However, in the latest season of the show, Amanda expressed a desire to undergo a second weight-loss surgery to further reduce her weight.
While it is not uncommon for individuals who have undergone bariatric surgery to opt for additional procedures to achieve further weight loss, it is essential to acknowledge the potential risks and complications associated with such surgeries. As of now, it remains unclear whether Amanda has undergone the second weight-loss surgery.
During the filming of the fourth season of “1000-lb Sisters,” Amanda finalized her divorce from her former spouse, Jason Halterman. Despite parting ways amicably in August 2020, their divorce was officially concluded two years later, in August 2022. Jason, who is the brother of Michael Halterman, Amy’s estranged husband, was married to Amanda for 22 years, during which they welcomed four sons into the world.
