The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) recently concluded the highly successful Healthcare Summit 2025, which gathered prominent figures from healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and academia to chart the future of healthcare in India. With the theme “Advancing Healthcare for India@2047,” the summit sought to explore key strategies and innovations that will shape the country’s healthcare system over the next two decades.
The event was officially launched with opening remarks by Prof. Sunil Maheshwari, Dean of Alumni and External Relations at IIMA, and Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), who represented the IIMA Healthcare Alumni Special Interest Group (SIG).
In his keynote address, IIMA Director Dr. Bharat Bhasker highlighted the integral role that management practices and technological advancements will play in driving healthcare improvements. The Inaugural Address was delivered by Pankaj Patel, Chairman of the IIMA Board of Governors and Chairman of Zydus Lifesciences. Patel underscored the immense growth potential India holds in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Rajeev Raghuvanshi, Drug Controller General of India, and Amit Agrawal, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), shared valuable insights into the regulatory frameworks and policies that will impact healthcare in the coming years.
A prominent feature of the summit was a panel discussion moderated by Sathya Prathipati, Senior Partner at McKinsey, titled “Advancing Healthcare for India@2047.” The esteemed panelists included Bhushan Akshikar of GSK & OPPI, Anish Bafna of Healthium, Gautam Khanna of Hinduja, Marc Matar of Simon-Kucher, and Dr. Om Manchanda of PathLabs. They offered their views on the evolving healthcare ecosystem and the challenges it faces.
Prof. Rajesh Chandwani, Chairperson of the Centre for Management of Health Services (CMHS) at IIMA, provided a comprehensive overview of ongoing healthcare research at IIMA, emphasizing the future directions for impactful studies that will contribute to India’s healthcare transformation.
A fireside chat featuring Dilip Shanghvi, Chairman of Sun Pharma, and Samir Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Group, moderated by Prof. Viswanath Pingali of IIMA, brought a dynamic discussion on leadership and innovation within the pharmaceutical industry.
One of the summit’s standout moments was the IIMA Healthcare Hackathon, which was introduced by Prof. Tarun Jain. The hackathon’s winners and runners-up presented their innovative healthcare solutions, highlighting the power of creativity and technology in addressing critical healthcare challenges.
The event also included a Keynote Address by J P Nadda, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, and Chemicals & Fertilizers for the Government of India. Nadda reaffirmed the government’s commitment to progressive healthcare reforms. The session concluded with an award ceremony for the Hackathon participants and the announcement of a new research project aimed at advancing healthcare solutions.
A special session on Emerging Healthcare Startups showcased the next generation of innovators in healthcare. Entrepreneurs like Siddharth Gadia (Zeno Health), Dr. Mandar Vaidya (Cloudphysician), and Dr. Krishna Veer Singh (Lissun) discussed their groundbreaking work in transforming healthcare services. Alka Goel, Founding Partner of Alkemi, opened the session, highlighting the importance of the startup ecosystem in reshaping healthcare.
The summit also featured a panel discussion on “Transforming Healthcare,” with leaders such as Sanjiv Navangul (Bharat Serums and Vaccines), Amit Mookim (Immuneel Therapeutics), Varun Khanna (Care Hospitals), and Rahul Agarwal (Quadria Capital). The session was moderated by Devdutt Marathe of Brookfield Asset Management.
The summit concluded with a powerful closing remark by Ulhas Joshi, Director of Stratex Enterprises, who emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers to realize India’s healthcare aspirations by 2047.
IIMA’s Healthcare Summit 2025 successfully provided a platform for meaningful dialogue, strategic collaborations, and knowledge sharing, reaffirming its pivotal role in shaping India’s healthcare future.
