Shraddha Eye Care Trust, the non-profit division of Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospital, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Padma Shri Dr. B. Ramana Rao, a distinguished Bangalore-based physician and cardiologist, to introduce eye care services at his well-known ‘Bhanuvara Grama Chikitsalaya,’ also known as the Sunday Village Clinic, located in T. Begur, Bangalore.
Dr. Rao, who has been running a free medical clinic every Sunday for over five decades, provides essential healthcare to underserved communities, addressing a critical gap in access to medical services. His clinic, which serves as a lifeline for individuals below the poverty line, offers various health services, including primary care and specialized treatments.
The Sunday Village Clinic provides comprehensive medical assistance, ranging from basic checkups like blood pressure and blood sugar tests, to more complex services such as electrocardiograms (ECGs), nebulization, dental care, medications, and free meals for patients traveling long distances. The newly introduced ophthalmic wing, fully equipped and operated by Shraddha Eye Care Trust, aims to enhance the clinic’s offerings with specialized eye care for rural patients.
Dr. B. Ramana Rao expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Quality healthcare is a basic human right, and everyone deserves access to specialized treatment and advanced technology. Our collaboration with Shraddha Eye Care Trust allows us to provide just that. This new Ophthalmic wing marks a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to ensure accessible, comprehensive healthcare for rural communities.”
The dedicated ophthalmic facility will provide a wide range of eye care services, offering much-needed specialized care in the rural areas of Karnataka. With a growing demand for eye care services, particularly in underserved communities, the clinic’s new wing will help address the significant gap in eye health across the region.
Prof. Dr. Sri Ganesh, Founder and Managing Trustee of Shraddha Eye Care Trust and CMD of Nethradhama Hospitals Pvt Ltd, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “We are honored to partner with Padma Shri Dr. Ramana Rao and his Village Clinic. Many people in rural areas suffer from preventable vision loss due to lack of access to basic eye care services. This collaboration will enable us to provide advanced eye care, including comprehensive eye exams and specialty care, to more individuals in need.”
The partnership comes at a crucial time, as over 2,000 people from across Karnataka visit the clinic each Sunday to receive medical services. According to recent data, nearly 43% of patients were unaware that they needed prescription eyeglasses, and 40% suffer from untreated cataracts, underscoring the pressing need for dedicated ophthalmic care in rural communities.
This collaboration marks a new chapter in providing accessible healthcare, ensuring that more people in Karnataka, particularly in rural areas, have access to vital eye care services.
