M.I.A. has made a shocking claim about JAY-Z, alleging that when she signed to his Roc Nation management company over a decade ago, the rapper demanded that she undergo plastic surgery.
In a recent live broadcast, the British artist, best known for her hit song “Paper Planes,” addressed a range of topics. Among them, she took aim at fellow musician Azealia Banks and shared her belief that pop sensation Adele should thank her rather than Beyoncé for her success. However, the most startling revelation came when M.I.A. discussed her time at Roc Nation.
The rapper, who was signed to the label in May 2012 and departed at the beginning of 2014, claims JAY-Z advised her to undergo cosmetic surgery when they first met.
“When I met JAY-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do is to get plastic surgery,” M.I.A. stated.
This is not the first time M.I.A. has publicly criticized JAY-Z and Roc Nation. Earlier this year, she accused the company of preventing her from seeing her son. In a February social media rant, M.I.A. tied her struggles to the U.S. government’s immigration policies, referencing high-profile figures such as Joe Biden, Julian Assange, and the ongoing Palestinian conflict.
In her original post, M.I.A. claimed that her visa processing had been delayed for over two months, far exceeding the expected wait time of two months. She shared a screenshot of an email suggesting she was ineligible for a U.S. visa.
“I have to wait for a Republican to come into office because 9 months from now is the election,” she wrote. The artist also made troubling allegations about her son, Ikhyd, suggesting he was being cared for by individuals convicted of sex trafficking.
“I’m not allowed to see my child for stealing food at 18, when I was poor, yet your government is OK with my child being with family convicted for child trafficking and sex cults,” she claimed.
M.I.A. also attributed her visa difficulties to her long-standing support for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and her outspoken stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. She contended that her vocal advocacy for a ceasefire and condemnation of genocide and ethnic cleansing were the true reasons behind the immigration issues she faced.
“I have shown support for Julian for 14 years and have been to the USA many times. The only thing different this time is I called for a ceasefire and spoke out against genocide and ethnic cleansing,” she wrote. “Now I am forced to choose between my child and speaking up for what’s right by God.”
