Raven-Symoné recently revealed that she underwent her first breast reduction surgery at just 15 years old, sharing personal details about the procedure on the December 5 episode of her “Tea Time with Raven & Miranda” podcast. The actress, now 38, discussed the impact of the surgery, which took her from a triple D cup size to a B.
“I had my first breast reduction at 15,” Raven-Symoné said during the podcast, cohosted with her wife Miranda Pearman-Maday. “Someone told me I needed to do it in order to get a show.” This comment, she explained, reflected the pressures she faced early in her career, particularly when she landed her iconic role as Raven Baxter on That’s So Raven at age 15.
The Disney Channel series, which aired from 2003 to 2007, made Raven-Symoné a household name, and she later reprised the role in the spinoff Raven’s Home from 2017 to 2023. Reflecting on her body image at the time, the actress recalled, “I felt like boys watched the show because I had big boobs. They came for the boobs and stayed for the comedy.”
Raven-Symoné also shared her thoughts on body image, noting that she didn’t experience the “beautiful embracing of the body” as a young girl that is more common today. She added, “At the same time, I’m like, if you’re gonna take my boobs out, I wanted lipo. I was like, ‘One-for-one, bro. Let’s go.’”
In a conversation with guest Michelle Buteau, the two women discussed their experiences with breast reduction surgeries, with Raven-Symoné describing the procedure’s “anchor scar.” She explained that surgeons make an incision under the areola that runs vertically down beneath the breast, creating a scar pattern resembling an anchor.
“The boobs come back no matter what when you gain weight,” she noted, sharing the ongoing challenges she faces with body changes. Raven-Symoné also recalled the difficult recovery process, including complications from the anesthesia that led to a seizure shortly after the surgery.
This marks the second time Raven-Symoné has opened up about her cosmetic surgeries. In August 2023, she shared on the same podcast that she had undergone two breast reductions and liposuction before turning 18. She revealed that her father had encouraged the procedures, and that she had asked for liposuction to address body image issues, particularly concerns about being called “fat.”
Despite the challenges, Raven-Symoné’s candid discussion sheds light on the pressures she faced as a young star and the long-term effects of early surgeries. “I have scars. I still have scar tissue to this day,” she said, acknowledging the lasting impact of her surgeries.
