Ariel Winter, widely known for her role in Modern Family, has openly discussed her journey with plastic surgery, dispelling rumors and sharing her personal motivations. The actor, who underwent a breast reduction in 2015 at just 17, has consistently emphasized her decision was rooted in personal well-being rather than societal pressures.
In 2016, Winter explained her reasons for the surgery. “It wasn’t because I didn’t like how I looked,” she clarified. “Having so much weight on my frame was affecting me psychologically. I was uncomfortable and unhappy. I chose surgery because of how I felt, not because of what anyone else thought.”
Winter has since become a vocal advocate for self-confidence, expressing positivity about her transformation. She also revealed that the procedure significantly improved her quality of life, reducing physical pain associated with her larger chest size. “Afterward, I automatically felt so much happier and just better physically. My back and shoulders didn’t hurt anymore,” she shared. The surgery reduced her cup size from F to D, providing her with both physical and emotional relief.
Tackling Rumors and Online Criticism
Despite her openness, Winter continues to face baseless accusations of having additional cosmetic procedures. She recently responded to an Instagram user who accused her of undergoing multiple surgeries. Addressing the comment, she firmly stated, “I wasn’t going to reply, but I HAVE to ask…what the f*** is cheek bone and chin shaving? You’re also wrong about all of it, by the way—one breast reduction and I lost weight, but you do you, boo.”
Estranged Mother Criticizes Winter’s Choices
Winter’s journey to self-acceptance has also been marked by her strained relationship with her mother, Crystal Workman. Their difficult history culminated in Winter’s emancipation at the age of 17, and Workman has remained publicly critical of her daughter’s decisions.
Following Winter’s breast reduction, she confidently walked the red carpet at the 2016 SAG Awards in a backless dress that revealed her surgical scars. While many supported Winter’s pride in her body, her mother voiced disapproval in an interview.
“I don’t think anyone at that age should be cutting into their breasts. I am surprised she did it so young and that the doctor did it for her so young,” Workman said. “She should never be embarrassed of her scars, but she shouldn’t be flaunting them.”
Focusing on Support and Positivity
Despite her mother’s criticism, Winter has found solace in the unwavering support of her loved ones. Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actor expressed her perspective on navigating negativity. “The people who supported me are the people that matter in my life, and that’s what I just kind of had to train myself to remember,” she said. “The people that love me and support me are what matter—their opinions matter.”
Winter’s story continues to resonate as a testament to self-empowerment and resilience in the face of judgment.
