A 31-year-old software engineer from Kerala is fighting for her life after a cosmetic surgery went terribly wrong. Her family is now demanding a thorough investigation, claiming gross medical negligence by the clinic.
Liposuction Gone Wrong
Neethu MS, from Sreevaraham in Thiruvananthapuram, underwent liposuction at a private cosmetic clinic in February. The procedure was meant to help her reduce post-pregnancy weight. However, it quickly turned into a medical nightmare.
According to her family, Neethu developed severe infections after the surgery. The situation worsened, leading to the amputation of four fingers and five toes. She also suffered a cardiac arrest and has been on ventilator support for more than three weeks.
Allegations of Negligence and Intimidation
Neethu’s mother, Maya, revealed that the clinic initially charged Rs 5 lakh for the surgery. Later, they offered a discount and convinced Neethu to proceed. Though she was discharged soon after, her health quickly deteriorated. She had to be readmitted to the same clinic.
Shockingly, when her condition became critical, the clinic did not arrange for an ambulance. Instead, they shifted her to another hospital using a private vehicle. At the new hospital, doctors had no choice but to amputate her infected fingers and toes.
Neethu’s family has accused the clinic and its staff of serious negligence. They also claim that the clinic tried to intimidate them. Her husband, Padmajith, has filed a police complaint against Dr. Shenal Shashankan, the surgeon who performed the liposuction.
Clinic’s License Under Scrutiny
At the time of the surgery, the clinic reportedly did not have a valid license. Despite this, it received official approval on May 5 from a panel that included the district medical officer. This license was later suspended after public outrage and increasing pressure from the media and public.
Legal Fight for Accountability
Kerala’s Chief Minister and Health Minister have been informed of the case. However, the family alleges that a medical board report appeared to support the clinic. They believe this was an attempt to weaken the investigation.
Neethu’s family is now calling for a fair, high-level probe. They are determined to pursue all legal options to ensure justice is served. The case has also reignited public concern over the regulation of cosmetic clinics in Kerala.
