Community eye care provider Aces has received approval from the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB) to begin treating NHS cataract patients at the Optical Express clinic in Liverpool.
Stephen Hannan, clinical services director at Optical Express and Aces, commented on the growing challenge of long NHS cataract surgery waiting lists. “We’re very proud to be helping to reduce it,” he said.
Aces has also secured approvals from several other ICB areas across the UK to offer the same cataract surgery services under the NHS. Patients referred through this new pathway can expect to receive treatment within just two to four weeks.
This initiative aims to ease pressure on NHS hospitals and improve access to timely eye care for patients in need of cataract surgery.
