Tammy Slaton, star of 1000-Lb Sisters, had an emotional reaction after seeing the results of her skin removal surgery in the June 10 episode of the TLC show. When the medical team removed her bandages, leaving just a small piece of tape under her chin, Tammy was left almost speechless, managing only to say, “Boy…”
In a confessional later on, after some swelling had gone down, the 38-year-old couldn’t hide her excitement. “I’m shocked, like I feel so weird,” she shared, before joking, “I don’t have my hanging ballsack off my face. My bat wings are gone, too. And I look down, and there’s nothing there but my lap now.”
Tammy acknowledged that it would take some time to adjust to her new appearance. “It’s going to take a little while for me to get used to seeing myself like this,” she admitted. However, it was clear from her reaction, both in the hospital mirror and during her confessional, that she was thrilled with the results.
Her brother, Chris Combs, shared his hopes for Tammy’s emotional well-being. “Honestly, I’m hoping Tammy sees a new person in that mirror,” he said. “She’s put all this work in to lose all this damn weight, so it’s time for her to feel good, too, about herself.”
Before her surgery, Tammy had expressed concerns about both the procedure and what her reflection would look like afterward. “Just really the pain and then my fear of how I’m going to look [when] looking at myself afterwards,” she said in the June 3 episode. “I’m so used to seeing all this hanging [from] my arms and now when I wake up Sunday or Saturday, I’m not going to have this anymore.”
Despite her anxiety, she added, “I’m going to look halfway normal from [the] face down. It’s scary but rewarding at the same time.”
This skin removal surgery is the latest step in Tammy’s transformative journey, which has included a remarkable 500-pound weight loss over the past four years.
