BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underwent successful retina surgery on his left eye in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday.
The operation was performed at Rutnin Eye Hospital in the afternoon, confirmed BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
“The surgery was completed at 4:15 pm (Thailand time). Alhamdulillah, the operation went successfully,” Zahid said.
Stable Condition, Family by His Side
Following the surgery, Fakhrul was moved to a hospital cabin where his wife Rahat Ara Begum and close family members are attending to him. Zahid added that Fakhrul’s condition is stable and he is doing well.
He is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days. “After his discharge, he will return to Bangladesh,” Zahid said.
Urgent Surgery Prompted International Travel
The BNP leader began experiencing vision problems in his left eye on Monday. He consulted specialists at United Hospital in Gulshan, Dhaka, where doctors diagnosed a retina issue and recommended immediate surgery.
Responding swiftly, Fakhrul traveled to Bangkok the same night on a Thai Airways flight. Medical experts at Rutnin Eye Hospital assessed his condition and decided to proceed with surgery.
Family Requests Prayers for Recovery
BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan requested prayers from the people of Bangladesh for Fakhrul’s speedy recovery. He also noted that Fakhrul and his wife had recently traveled to Singapore on April 6 for medical check-ups and treatment.
