Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, has been honored with the Film Festival Award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in Los Angeles. This award recognizes films that bring innovation and educational value to the field of eye care.
The award was presented by Dr. Jason Jones, Chief Judge at ASCRS, in recognition of Dr. Agarwal’s pioneering work on pinhole pupilloplasty, a revolutionary surgical technique in ophthalmology.
Pinhole pupilloplasty involves reducing the size of the iris to create a small, pinhole-shaped pupil. This method offers a new solution for patients suffering from corneal scars, opacities, or keratoconus (a condition where the cornea becomes cone-shaped). Unlike traditional corneal transplants that require donor tissue, have higher risks, and demand longer recovery times, pinhole pupilloplasty is minimally invasive, suture-free, and allows for faster rehabilitation.
In addition to its safety and simplicity, this technique enables patients to regain clear vision for both near and distant objects without the need for glasses, significantly improving their quality of life.
The ASCRS Film Festival Award highlights Dr. Agarwal’s commitment to advancing eye care through innovative, patient-friendly surgical solutions.
