After outgrowing its original space on Queen Street, The Aesthetic Studio has moved into a newly remodeled storefront in downtown Sault Ste. Marie. The new location combines spa-inspired interiors with medical-grade technology to enhance the client experience.
“This expansion isn’t about vanity,” says founder and nurse injector Megan Vernelli. “We wanted a space that lets us add new devices, maintain one-on-one appointments, and offer clients the privacy they’ve been asking for.”
A Space Built from Client Wishes
The move was driven by input from The Aesthetic Studio’s clients. For 18 months, Vernelli collected feedback and ideas on “dream room” features from her team before beginning the search for a new space last October. She worked with local architecture intern Jules Robert and interior designer Kirsten Bursche to bring these ideas to life, creating a privacy-first layout with separate zones for the lounge and checkout, two discreet entrances, and individual appointment areas.
“The goal is for every client to feel safe, respected, and never rushed,” Vernelli explains.
Four Years of Dedicated, Credentialed Care
The Aesthetic Studio’s services are provided by professionals who have made aesthetics their full-time career for the past four years. Vernelli, a registered practical nurse (RPN), founded the brand in 2016. Today, she leads a team with expertise in nursing, medical aesthetics, laser technology, permanent makeup, and advanced nail artistry.
“Real People, Real Skin” Philosophy
The studio’s approach is grounded in a rejection of social media’s often unrealistic beauty standards. New clients begin with a complimentary facial assessment where budget, lifestyle, and comfort level are prioritized over trending treatments.
“We guide, not push,” Vernelli says. “Sometimes the best plan is simply starting with sunscreen and double-cleansing for a month before discussing further treatments.”
Vernelli challenges two common myths during consultations: that results from treatments should be immediate or dramatic, and that skincare isn’t important when it comes to injectables. “The best outcomes are subtle and layered, and great skin only enhances injectable results,” she explains.
She recalls a moment when a client took her “after” photo with no foundation and began to cry. “That shift—from hiding to glowing—is why we expanded,” says Vernelli. “Skin isn’t just about appearance; it’s about self-worth.”
Skincare Basics for Every Budget
When asked about the most important at-home skincare habits, Vernelli offers a short list:
- Broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, year-round
- Thorough double-cleansing at night
- General skin nutrition—water, sleep, and balanced fats
“All advanced treatments build on these basics,” she says.
A Quiet Revolution in Regenerative Technology
This year, The Aesthetic Studio will introduce exosome-based therapies and energy devices designed to help the skin repair itself, rather than just smoothing its surface. Vernelli believes regenerative treatments are the future of skin health and sees the new downtown location as the perfect place to showcase these innovations.
Despite the exciting additions, she emphasizes that education will remain a cornerstone of the studio’s services. “Trends come and go, but trust doesn’t. We’ll keep explaining the science behind our treatments in simple terms so clients understand exactly what they’re choosing.”
