The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Beauty Therapy Institute (BTI) are calling for safer practices and increased investment in the country’s booming beauty industry, warning against harmful trends like skin bleaching.
The appeal comes as Africa’s beauty and personal care market is projected to hit $15 billion by 2027, with Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya leading growth across the continent.
At a recent symposium held by Uno Health Group in Abuja, 23 individuals were trained and certified by BTI. The initiative is part of a broader effort to boost professional standards and improve safety within the sector.
The event brought together government officials, health professionals, beauty entrepreneurs, and other key stakeholders to discuss sustainable development and best practices in the African beauty space.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Women Affairs, Ms. Chinny Okoye, Special Adviser on Strategic Partnerships, congratulated the new graduates. She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting innovation and sustainable economic empowerment in the beauty industry.
“The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs remains committed to supporting innovation, economic empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods,” Okoye said.
Stakeholders at the event emphasized the need for better regulation, professional training, and collaboration between government and private sector players to ensure consumer safety and long-term industry growth.
