Jennifer Lawrence has addressed recent rumors suggesting she has undergone plastic surgery, clarifying that the changes in her appearance are simply a result of aging.
The 33-year-old Hunger Games star spoke candidly about the speculation during a conversation with Kylie Jenner in the Winter 2023 issue of Interview Magazine. In the interview, Lawrence explained that while she’s embracing a fresh look, it has nothing to do with cosmetic surgery.
The discussion began when Jenner opened up about the origins of her lip kit empire, revealing that her passion for creating the products stemmed from her desire to achieve fuller lips, often overlining them to get the desired effect. Lawrence, who also uses makeup artist Hung Vanngo, laughed as she shared a recent misconception.
“That’s really, really cool,” Lawrence said in response to Jenner’s story. “And I also think it’s incredible what makeup can do because I work with Hung, who overlines my lips, and I call him a plastic surgeon. Everybody in the last few months has been convinced that I’ve had eye surgery.”
Jenner, surprised by the comment, quickly responded, “Stop.” But Lawrence was serious.
“I’m like: ‘I didn’t have eye surgery. I’m doing makeup,’” she clarified. “Well, apparently, I’ve had full plastic surgery,” she added, referring to the rumors fans have spread about her appearance.
Jenner reassured Lawrence, saying, “You don’t look like that,” before mentioning her own experiences with lip fillers. Lawrence then reflected on how it can be frustrating for people to comment on her appearance, especially since fans often compare her current look to photos from when she was younger.
“I’ve had the same thing. I started at 19, so I get the before and after pictures from when I’m 19 to 30 and I’m like: ‘I grew up. I lost baby weight in my face, and my face changed because I’m aging,’” Lawrence explained. “Everybody thought I had a nose job, and I’m like: ‘I’ve had the exact same nose. My cheeks got smaller. Thank you for bringing it up.’”
In the same interview, Lawrence also gave a glimpse into her personal life and her approach to fame. She revealed that when her son was born, she became increasingly anxious about safety, which led her to hire security for her family.
“I didn’t have that much security before I had a kid, but once I had one, with my intrusive thoughts and anxiety, I wanted us to have security around all the time,” she said.
However, Lawrence explained that she initially wanted the security personnel to remain “invisible” to her child. Over time, she realized that it was important for her son to acknowledge and interact with the people helping them.
“Before I hired them, in my mind I was like, I want them to be invisible. I don’t want my kid to see you or know you,” Lawrence explained. “But once they start working for you, it’s like: ‘Well, wait. This is a person in our life. He’s helping us.’”
Lawrence now encourages her child to greet the security staff, saying, “It’s probably better to say: ‘Say good morning to Sean. Hi. How are you?’ We’ve incorporated them more in our lives, which surprised me. That wasn’t how I planned it.”
