Dr. Arun Kumar Choudhury, a distinguished plastic surgeon, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Annual Conference of Plastic Surgeons of Odisha, held on last Sunday in Puri. The recognition was for his exceptional contributions to the fields of plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery.
A former head of the plastic and reconstructive surgery department at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Choudhury pioneered significant advancements in the medical community. In 2006, he established the first MCh course in plastic surgery, followed by the founding of a burn center in 2009 and an ICU in 2022. Over the years, he has mentored approximately 30 MCh students, many of whom now hold esteemed positions in leading institutions across the country.
Throughout his impressive career, which spans over three decades, Dr. Choudhury has presented more than 100 scientific papers, with over 30 published in prestigious national and international journals. His contributions were further recognized in 1997 when he received the Mahatma Gandhi Award for his exemplary handling of the mass burn tragedy during a spiritual congregation at Baripada.
