Boots has launched a nationwide dermatology training program for its pharmacists, alongside a new AI-powered skin analysis tool, in a major effort to enhance skincare services across its UK stores.
The initiative, developed in partnership with L’Oréal Groupe and consultant dermatologist Dr. Justine Hextall, is approved by the British Association of Dermatologists. It provides pharmacists with expert training to advise on common skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation—without customers needing to book appointments.
At the same time, Boots introduced the SmartSkin Checker, an AI-powered tool accessible through its Online Doctor service. This digital platform allows users to upload photos of their skin concerns and screens for over 70 conditions, offering quick and convenient support.
With skin issues responsible for one in four GP appointments in England and Wales, Boots hopes this program will help ease the strain on the healthcare system. By combining pharmacist expertise with cutting-edge technology, Boots is positioning itself as a go-to destination for everyday skincare advice.
