A local man from Glengowrie is preparing to ditch his prescription glasses after winning a life-changing $200,000 in a Keno lottery. Part of his prize money will go towards laser eye surgery, a procedure he has long wished to afford.
The man, who won the Keno Spot 8 jackpot in draw number 250523 876 on Friday, May 23rd, was surprised by the win. He had already left the venue where he purchased his ticket when he received the life-changing news. A friend, still at the venue, called him to share the good news.
“At first, I didn’t believe it. My friend called and told me I had won the jackpot, and I thought he was joking!” the winner said. “Then, the manager called me and confirmed the win. I couldn’t believe it. I immediately ordered an Uber and went back to check the ticket.”
The man had previously won $32,000 in Keno, but this jackpot far surpassed his earlier prize.
“I’ve won $32,000 before, but nothing like this!” he said. “The first thing I’ll do is get laser eye surgery. I won’t need glasses anymore, and I’ll see better for work. It’s fantastic!”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Morphett Arms Hotel, located at 138 Morphett Road, Glengowrie. This win adds to the growing list of Keno jackpots in South Australia. In 2024, Keno players in the state won more than $130 million across various games, including 40 winners of Keno Spot 8, 9, and 10, who collectively took home over $6.49 million. One of the Spot 10 winners from Paralowie plans to donate a portion of her $2.26 million prize to charity.
Keno and other state lottery games contribute significantly to community services. Last year, over $1.8 billion from lottery taxes supported essential sectors such as healthcare, education, disaster relief, and research.
