A generous donation of $12,500 from the Stawell Hospital Auxiliary will significantly improve the cataract surgery services at Grampians Health, enhancing the experience for patients undergoing eye surgery.
The donation has been used to purchase four new sets of cataract surgery instruments, vital for the busy eye-surgery program at Stawell Hospital. These instruments will support an average of 16 patients undergoing cataract procedures on each ophthalmology surgical list.
Streamlining Surgery and Improving Patient Care
The new sets will be sterilized and maintained by the hospital’s central sterile services department, which is managed by Stephanie Rathgeber. Ms. Rathgeber explained that the introduction of additional instruments will improve the hospital’s ability to manage surgery schedules more efficiently, reducing delays between procedures and enhancing patient care.
“With more sets available, we can better manage turnaround times and maintain a smooth workflow between patients,” said Ms. Rathgeber.
A Boost to Local Health Services
The Grampians Health team expressed their gratitude for the donation, with Claire Woods, the hospital’s Chief People Officer, thanking the auxiliary for their continued support.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the auxiliary’s donation,” Woods said. “It’s fantastic to have the backing of such a dedicated group, helping us provide the best care possible for our patients.”
Supporting Local Surgery and Comfort
Pam Byron, President of the Stawell Hospital Auxiliary, highlighted the group’s commitment to supporting local healthcare services. She noted, “Supporting equipment that helps people stay close to home for surgery – and ensures they receive care in a comfortable, familiar setting – is what the auxiliary is all about.”
This thoughtful contribution further solidifies the partnership between the Stawell Hospital Auxiliary and Grampians Health, improving the community’s access to quality healthcare while ensuring the comfort and well-being of patients in their local setting.
