Adrianne Curry-Rhode, the former America’s Next Top Model winner, is marking a significant milestone in her journey toward self-love and healing. On January 6, the 42-year-old model and reality star shared a powerful reflection on her five-year anniversary since undergoing breast implant explant surgery. The post, shared on Instagram and X, chronicled the emotional and physical transformations she has experienced since the procedure.
Breast implant explant surgery, according to the Cleveland Clinic, involves the removal of silicone or saline implants. While some people opt for the procedure for personal reasons, others, like Curry-Rhode, undergo it after experiencing health complications such as hardening of the tissue surrounding the implant.
A Journey of Healing and Self-Acceptance
Curry-Rhode took to social media to celebrate the healing journey that has unfolded over the past five years. She openly described the painful early stages of her recovery, noting the emotional toll it took on her. “The first year, I wept nonstop. I had lost over 90% of my natural breasts to necrosis and refused to get a fat transfer. I wasn’t willing to risk my health anymore for vanity,” she wrote. “I had a crash course in being humbled and laid bare.”
Despite the difficulty of the process, Curry-Rhode acknowledged the positive changes that have come from it. “Five years post breast implant explant, and I have had a total metamorphosis,” she added. “My husband was my rock… and I can’t believe how unbothered he was by my frankentitties.”
Gratitude for Her Support System
Curry-Rhode’s post also reflected the pivotal role her husband, Matthew Rhode, played in her recovery. “My husband had to cut out all my stitches due to our remote living and the weather,” she shared. “I was brought to my knees in humility and came through the fire of my vanity dying.” She spoke candidly about the challenges of the healing process, noting it took two years for the results to “settle and look human.”
No Regrets and a New Perspective
Looking back on the experience, Curry-Rhode expressed no regrets. “I am happy and healthy, and I wouldn’t wish plastic surgery on my worst enemy. It did nothing to ease my body dysmorphia and only gave me years of suffering,” she shared. “Be OK with who and what you are. In my case, with a lot LESS of what I was.”
In a previous interview with PEOPLE last July, Curry-Rhode revealed how much her life has changed since leaving the Hollywood spotlight for a quieter life in Montana. “I left and I make a hell of a lot less money, but I feel like I have my dignity, my soul,” she said. “From when I won Top Model to that point, a lot of me had been chipped away.”
She continued, explaining how the pressures of fame slowly wore her down: “Every year you chip another piece off, and you’re like, ‘Well, I won’t miss this little piece,’ just to keep it going.”
Embracing a New Life
Today, Curry-Rhode finds peace in a simpler life, having distanced herself from the pressures and expectations of her former celebrity lifestyle. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and the freedom that comes with being at peace with who you are.
