Kelly Stafford, the 35-year-old wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, shared her experience with plastic surgery in a recent episode of her podcast, The Morning After. The mother of four talked about how a “mommy makeover” helped her feel confident in her body after childbirth.
Stafford revealed that she had both breast surgery and a tummy tuck performed by Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Dr. Garth Fisher. “I had my boobs re-done and you also did the tummy tuck,” Stafford told Dr. Fisher on the podcast. “You put back together my abs.”
The tummy tuck not only helped tighten her abdominal muscles but also removed excess skin. Despite her initial skepticism, Stafford said she was pleasantly surprised by the procedure. “A lot of people who live in California know what a tummy tuck is, but in my mind, when I was told about it, I was thinking, ‘That’s lipo, right?’” she explained, referring to liposuction. “I was thinking fat removal and then skin, and I remember being like, ‘Oh man, OK.’”
Stafford also discussed why she chose to undergo the surgery when she did. “You want to do it when you still have that urge to feel sexy,” she said, emphasizing the importance of self-confidence after motherhood. “I’m not saying at 18 years down the road I might not have a resurgence of that. But I also think you’re older in age, and it gets tougher.”
This wasn’t Stafford’s first experience with surgery. In 2019, she underwent a 12-hour procedure to remove a benign brain tumor. The recovery was difficult, as she had to relearn how to walk and temporarily separated from her children for safety. “They said, ‘You can’t have any kids around you because it’ll throw off your balance,’” Stafford recalled. “So we had to say goodbye to our kids for about three weeks.”
Kelly and Matthew Stafford met at the University of Georgia, where she was a cheerleader and he was the quarterback. The couple married in 2015 and recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. They share four daughters: 8-year-old twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4.
Other celebrities, such as Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry, have also opened up about their own experiences with “mommy makeovers.”
