While many users of weight loss drugs like Ozempic report troubling side effects such as “Ozempic face,” one woman, Alejandra Salomon, says her experience was entirely different—she believes the drug made her look younger.
Salomon, in her late twenties, started using Semaglutide, a compound version of Ozempic, to shed 20 pounds ahead of her sister’s wedding. She ended up losing 60 pounds and says the transformation has been life-changing. “My weight loss made me look 10 years younger—no Botox needed,” she told NeedToKnow.
Contrary to concerns raised by experts, including Dr. Patrick Byrne, president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, who warns that Ozempic can age the face by causing sunken cheeks and sagging skin, Salomon says she’s thrilled with the results. “It looks like I got jawline filler, but really, I lost 60 pounds and got in the best shape of my life,” she said.
For Salomon, her once-round face was a sign of inflammation. Now, she views her slimmer face as a symbol of health and confidence. “It has without a doubt been the best decision for both my health and confidence,” she said.
She emphasizes that her transformation wasn’t effortless. “It is not an easy solution and is not a magic trick. I started to eat so much protein and switch up my workouts,” she explained. Salomon has since stopped taking the medication but continues to maintain her weight through diet and exercise.
However, not all side effects of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic are skin deep. Some users have reported a phenomenon known as “Ozempic teeth”—a set of dental issues that includes dry mouth, bad breath, and gum disease.
Dr. Michele Green, speaking to the Daily Mail, explained that Ozempic can reduce saliva production, which is essential for oral health. “Saliva helps remove food particles, neutralizes acids from bacteria, and provides minerals to strengthen enamel,” she said.
Despite concerns surrounding GLP-1 drugs, Salomon’s story offers a different perspective—one where weight loss has not only boosted physical health but also improved self-image and appearance.
