BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is recovering well after undergoing eye surgery at Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok. Doctors have advised him to remain on complete rest for two weeks before traveling, according to BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
“The condition of Fakhrul’s left eye after the operation is stable. With everyone’s prayers, his recovery is progressing,” Dr Zahid said.
Medical experts at the Bangkok hospital have strongly advised against air travel during this period. “Air pressure changes during flights can create complications after eye surgery,” explained Dr Zahid. “To avoid any risks, the doctors have instructed him not to fly for at least two weeks.”
Fakhrul’s right eye remains healthy and fully functional. His left eye, which underwent surgery, is currently protected with special glasses. He is closely following the post-surgery instructions, which include staying in bed, wearing dark glasses, and maintaining specific head positions to reduce eye pressure.
His wife, Rahat Ara Begum, is by his side in Bangkok, along with a few close relatives.
Dr Zahid asked the public to keep Fakhrul in their prayers for a quick and full recovery. He also noted that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are being regularly updated on Fakhrul’s condition.
Fakhrul had surgery on May 14 to treat a retinal issue in his left eye.
